From Mid-Life Fitness Goal to Coaching Triathlon: Coach Ryan’s Story

From Mid-Life Fitness Goal to Coaching Triathlon: Coach Ryan’s Story

Meet Coach Ryan, who entered triathlon as a way to get fit in his mid-thirties, while trying to manage a career as a counselor and raise a family. His story is not only relatable, but provides some great insights into getting into triathlon (without going broke either!).

Coach Ryan

Coach Ryan began his journey with a background in soccer and track, which gave him a solid foundation in running. However, mastering biking and swimming was a whole new challenge. Ryan recounts how his initial goal of completing a half Ironman was just the beginning. As he crossed the finish line of his first half Ironman, he found himself yearning for more—leading him to explore the world of coaching.

Coach Ryan started his coaching career with The Endurance Edge, mentored by Chris Newport. He discusses the importance of our nurturing and collaborative coaching network, designed to maximize athlete potential through shared ideas, collective expertise, and a supportive environment.

But triathlon is not just about the technicalities; it’s also about the emotional journey and the community spirit. Ryan shares how it’s not all about the finish line for him, but witnessing beginners hit new milestones and achievements. We also explore Ryan’s relaxed and fun nature, such as classic “Ryanisms”—nuggets of wisdom that Ryan shares with his athletes, as well as his unique approach to how he coaches group track workouts.
