Strength, 70.3 and Doing What You Love with Coach Jason

In the latest episode of the Find Your Edge podcast, Coach Jason, a seasoned triathlete with a unique journey into the world of endurance sports. Jason’s triathlon adventure began thanks to his wife, who convinced him to do a marathon. He then tried a triathlon, and now really loves strength training, and continues to improve at endurance events.

Over the years, Jason has competed in numerous endurance events and has developed a passion for coaching others. His philosophy centers around creating personalized training programs that cater to the individual needs and goals of each athlete. This approach ensures that athletes can pursue their passions while achieving their triathlon goals.

Strength, VO2Max and Triathlon

Strength training plays a vital role in Jason’s coaching philosophy, especially for aging athletes. As athletes age, maintaining strength and VO2 max becomes crucial for long-term success. Jason emphasized the importance of incorporating strength training into endurance training programs. He shared his own regimen, which includes a mix of upper and lower body strength training. For aging athletes, maintaining muscle mass and bone density is essential for performance and overall health.

70.3, Aero Position and Gradual Improvements

Jason loves the intricacies of mastering the 70.3 triathlon distance. Jason expressed his preference for this distance due to its strategic complexity. Nutrition, hydration, and pacing become critical factors in a 70.3 race, and Jason provided valuable insights into how athletes can optimize these elements. He also highlighted the importance of aero position and shares some of his other tips, preferences (like Ironman 70.3 NC) and pet peeves.

Jason’s dedication to giving back to the sport and helping athletes achieve their goals shines through in this episode. His personalized coaching approach, focus on strength training, and strategic insights make him a valuable resource for triathletes of all levels.
